Electric Bike Cycling Holiday, French Alps

A fabulous 6-night electric bike cycling holiday in the French Alps staying at the wonderful family-owned Plein Sud Hotel, Chantemerle in the heart of Serre Chevalier.

An easy tour taking you through the forest paths in the larch forests, up to lakes and ancient forts, through protected and picturesque valleys with the most stunning views all around. Find out about the history of Briancon and the surrounding region which is in the sunniest part of France with 300 days of sunshine a year.

No need to worry about climbing up those pesky hills, you can put in as much or as little effort as you want, safe in the knowledge that the electric bike will get you to the top! The hire of a premium mountain electric bike with full suspension is included.

Fully bilingual and experienced bike instructor, Philippe Mennecier (Claudia’s husband), will be leading the group. Originally from Lyon, Philippe is a passionate cycling enthusiast and, having lived in Serre Chevalier for 25 years, has plenty of expert local knowledge. He will not only take you on the best paths, but also to the best local restaurants for lunch and the most scenic picnic spots.

Staying in the perfectly situated 3-star, Plein Sud Hotel, in the heart of Chantemerle enables the group to leave from the same hotel on bike each morning. Comfortable rooms, all with south facing balconies, a warm welcome and delicious food make it an ideal choice. There is lovely garden and outdoor bar area and heated swimming pool.

Introduction: how to get the most out of your e-bike
Bike ride through the Serre Chevalier Valley alongside the River Guisane via the pretty villages and their fountains.
Reach the Col du Lautaret at 2058m for lunch at a restaurant overlooking the magnificent La Meije glacier.


Les Ayes - in the larch forest

Climb up through forest paths with stunning panoramic views over Briancon and the connecting 5 valleys. Look out for roe deer.
Gourmet picnic at the beautiful Orceyrette Lake.


La Clarée Valley - sundials

Pass through the colourful weekly market at Briancon towards La Clarée Valley.
Head up through this lush protected valley and pause to learn about the history of the region including the famous 'cadrans solaires' or sundials.
Lunch at a local restaurant 'Chez Mitch' in Nevache, a very attractive town near the top end of the valley.


Col du Granon -the marmotte's tracks

Ride up the picturesque Col du Granon which starts not far from the hotel. Magnificent views of the whole of the valley of Serre Chevalier. Delicious picnic by a pretty lake.
For the afternoon, option of relaxing in the thermal baths of Monetier, or heading to Briancon for some shopping or simply relaxing by the hotel's pool.


Montgenevre - Vauban's forts

Discover some of the historic forts built by Vauban in the 17th century to protect this important strategic town.
Pass through the fortified old town of Briancon, the highest town in Europe and head up to Montgenevre on the Italian border visiting the forts en route.

Transfer to Turin Airport.
With an afternoon departure (approximately 4.30pm from the hotel for the BA flight back to Gatwick) you will have plenty of free time to chill out, visit the thermal baths or perhaps visit the historic town of Briancon, the highest town in Europe.
There is an option to extend the hire on your e-bike.

Deposit and Payment

To make a reservation, please fill in the booking form by clicking on "BOOKING" on this page.

Then pay a non-refundable deposit of 15% of the full price. The full balance becomes due approximately 2-3 months before departure – we will email a reminder invoice.

We accept payment via bank transfer, Paypal, debit or credit card. For payment via bank transfer, contact Claudia for the details and fill in the booking form without payment.

Once we have received a booking form and the deposit has been paid, you will receive a confirmation invoice. Please see our Terms and Conditions for our cancellation policy.

Doubling up

For best value, we may be able to match you with a same-sex room mate (subject to another person also wishing to share). Contact Claudia for more information.

Bike Hire

Included in the price is 5-day's hire of a premium electric mountain bike with full suspension. If you wish to hire the bike for longer, please contact us for details. If you wish to bring your own e-bike, no problem - we can deduct the price of the bike hire from your holiday.

Group size

There will be a maximum group size of 8 with each instructor. The minimum group size is 2.

Route and itinerary changes

Although Serre Chevalier has a very sunny reputation, the weather can change very quickly in the mountains. Philippe may change or adapt the programme depending on the weather conditions, the group and other local factors (eg road closures).

Travel Insurance

On booking, you must guarantee that you have, or will have made the arrangements to insure your party as necessary to include any activities in which you may be participating.

Coronavirus - your payment

If the holiday is cancelled or postponed due to the coronavirus pandemic, then your payment will be refunded, or, if you prefer, transferred to another holiday. If you are unable to travel due to the coronavirus restrictions or if you test positive for the virus, again your payment will be refunded, or, if you prefer, transferred to another holiday.

However if you need to cancel for any other reason, then the deposit and final payments are non-refundable as per our usual terms and conditions. See at the bottom of this website for details.
